SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (7-7, 4-5 PSAC) defeated the Shepherd University Rams (3-11, 1-8 PSAC) on Saturday afternoon to get back to .500 on the season.
Jasmine Hilton recorded season-highs in points with 30 and three-pointers made with four.
Kristen Fulford was Mansfield's second-leading scorer adding 12 points and going 8-8 from the free throw line.
Emilie Leidig recorded 11 points on 4-5 shooting and 3-4 from three.
The Mountaineers trailed early in the first as they were down four at the first-quarter media timeout. However, Mansfield settled in and finished the quarter with a 21-18 lead.
Leidig led the Mounties with six points in the quarter, including knocking down both of her three-point attempts. Hilton and Katie Sheeler each added four points to tie for second on the team.
Mansfield started the second quarter on a quick 6-0 run thanks to two threes by Danae Ellzy. The strong quarter continued as the Mountaineers held a seven-point lead at the media timeout. The Mounties closed the quarter similarly to how they started, going on a 7-0 run to go into the break with a 40-26 lead.
Hilton led the Mountaineers in both points (11) and rebounds (5) in the half. Ellzy added eight points on 3-5 shooting. Leidig and Sheeler each ended the half with six points, Sheeler also had a team-high four assists in the first two quarters.
Shepherd stormed back to start the third quarter as they outscored Mansfield 16-5 in the first five minutes of the quarter. The Mountaineers were able to control the Rams' charge as they maintained a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
A Hilton masterclass in the fourth allowed the Mountaineers to pull away from the Rams. Hilton scored 14 of her game-high 30 in the fourth quarter to secure a 81-63 victory.
