Drew Patrick Named Director of Athletic Communications & Marketing at Mansfield

Drew Patrick has been named the Director of Athletic Communications and Marketing at Mansfield. Owen Newkam-Ulrich ’21 has been named to an assistant role and Corey Williams’23 has been named graduate assistant.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The 2023-24 athletic season is underway at Mansfield and with that, the Mounties are excited to announce updates to the Athletic Communications and Marketing staff. Drew Patrick has been named the new Director of Athletic Communications and Marketing.
 
Patrick is no stranger to Mansfield as he has served on the athletic communication staff in some capacity since 2017.
 
Along with Patrick's new role as director, Owen Newkam-Ulrich, a 2021 Mansfield graduate, has been named the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Marketing/Multimedia Production.
 
Rounding out the new look athletic communications staff at Mansfield is graduate assistant Corey Williams.
 
Williams, a 2023 Mansfield graduate, becomes the office's first graduate assistant in the history of the department.
 
"I am so pleased to welcome our new Athletic Communications staff," said Peggy Carl, Mansfield Director of Athletics. "While each of them is new to their role, they are not new to either Mansfield or to Athletic Communications. It is that tie to Mansfield that will serve them well in these new roles. We are both proud of their accomplishments and excited to see how this new crew is able to position Mansfield Athletics in the media moving forward. We have high hopes for continued excellence in this area. Congratulations to them all!"
 
Patrick spent the 2022-23 academic year serving as the assistant director of athletic communications and marketing/multimedia production. He held similar assistant roles at Mansfield since 2019, and the Wellsboro, Pennsylvania native served as a digital media intern at Mansfield from 2017-19.
 
Under Patrick's leadership, the department launched Mansfield's live streaming video platform - Mountie All-Access, which broadcasted its first event in the fall of 2017. Since the debut, Patrick continued to enhance the quality and coverage of Mountie All-Access through his broadcasting, production, and leadership of staff. He was also responsible for the creation and implementation of Mounties Midweek, a weekly show dedicated to Mansfield Athletics, featuring game highlights, interviews and special segments.
 
Patrick earned a degree in journalism and public relations from Edinboro. While a student at Edinboro, Patrick served as the sports director of WFSE, the student radio station. He was a familiar voice doing play-by-play for seven different sports and he hosted a morning sports talk show. Patrick also worked as the Co-General Manager/Sports Director for Edinboro Television.
 
Newkam-Ulrich spent the previous years (2021-23) as a graduate assistant at Lock Haven, working in athletic communications and marketing office, all while working toward a master's degree in sports management.
 
During his time at Lock Haven, Newkam-Ulrich played a pivotal role in augmenting video streaming and broadcasting initiatives while developing new video features and highlight packages. He also managed the PSAC Network and oversaw extensive creative service projects. Newkam-Ulrich also played a huge role in augmenting graphic design during his at time at Lock Haven and helped the Bald Eagles implement BoxOut Sports, a graphic design platform that is an industry leader.
 
The 2021 Mansfield graduate was awarded the Steve McCloskey Service Award for his many contributions to the Mansfield Athletic Department during his time as a student.
 
"I'm thrilled to welcome back Owen Newkam-Ulrich," said Patrick. "He was my first choice to be my assistant here, he has great video editing skill and creative tendencies. Seeing his work when he was a student assistant and what he did last year at Lock Haven, I know he is the perfect choice to continue to elevate this department."
 
Williams joins the Mansfield athletic communication staff as Graduate Assistant. He will assist the staff in statistics, written content and social media.
 
A native of Danville Pa., Williams graduated in 2023 from Mansfield after earning a degree in communication - sports information. Williams was an intern in the athletic communication department during his final semester where he took a lead in stating games. He worked with Mansfield athletic communications department for three years.
 
"I'm excited to bring Corey on to our staff at Mansfield," said Patrick. "As an Undergrad he gained valuable experience and became one of our most important student workers. I'm proud to help him start the next step in his professional journey."
 
In his new role, Williams will continue to help cover all Mansfield teams and student-athletes with a vital role in managing social media, updating the athletic website (GoMounties.com), while also serving a lead role as statistician and record-keeper.
