MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield senior Sarah Sherman was named the 2025-26 recipient of the Steve McCloskey Service Award, the athletic communications and marketing office announced at the Mountie Awards ceremony on Saturday, May 9.
Named in honor of longtime Mansfield Sports Information Director Steve McCloskey who retired during the spring of 2017, the award is presented annually to a student who embodies the Mansfield spirit and provides exemplary service to the athletic department.
Sherman is a four-year member of the Softball team who has demonstrated a genuine passion for giving back through her extensive involvement across campus and within the Mansfield community.
"Her leadership has been just as impressive. Through her involvement in SAAC, SGA, CCSI, and BOOM, she has helped shape initiatives that strengthen both student-athlete engagement and the broader Mansfield community. Whether organizing service opportunities, leading social media efforts, or supporting campaigns like the Mountaineer Foundation's Giving Day, she brings energy, creativity, and purpose to everything she does. Softball Head Coach Edith Gallagher said. "What truly sets her apart, though, is her selflessness. She doesn't seek the spotlight—she creates it for others. She leads by example, supports her teammates, and represents Mansfield with pride and integrity in every space she enters."
