Mansfield Names Matthew Sprague Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Department of Athletics named Matthew Sprague as the next head strength and conditioning coach for the Mountaineers.

"We are pleased to welcome Matthew Sprague to Mansfield as the new head strength and conditioning coach," said Jeff Osgood, Commonwealth University Interim President. "I'm confident his background and abilities will enrich the experience of our Mountie student-athletes and help our athletic programs succeed."

Sprague comes to Mansfield from NCAA Division I Central Michigan University where he served as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning. At CMU, he created programs for the baseball and soccer teams, and assisted with the football team.

"Mansfield is proud to welcome Matthew Sprague," said Andrew Petko, Director of Athletics. "His student-athlete focuses, and his vast experience will enhance Mountaineer Athletics greatly."

"It's an honor to be named the head strength and conditioning coach at Mansfield," Sprague said. "I want to thank Andrew Petko and the search committee for this opportunity. I look forward to the years to come."

Prior to Central Michigan, Sprague was a graduate assistant with Youngstown State University. Sprague had direct oversight of program design and implementation for the track and field team's sprinters and the women's tennis program. He worked with athletic trainers on Return to Play (RTP) protocol and was responsible for RTP athletes during lifts and practice.

Sprague interned with Penn State University and the University of Michigan prior to his stint as a graduate assistant at YSU.

Sprague earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Slippery Rock University in 2023 and is a certified Strength and Conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
