MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mountaineer Athletic department announced the winners of the prestigious Creed Awards at the Mountie Awards ceremony on Saturday night, May 6.

Started in 2020, the Mansfield University athletic department has selected four student-athletes to represent the pillars of the Mansfield University creed. The students were nominated by athletic staff members and were chosen by a committee. The four pillars of the creed are service, scholar, character, and culture.

Sprint football's
Kade Showers was selected as the student-athlete to represent character and was nominated by Head Coach
John Evans. Showers, who missed five weeks of the fall semester serving in the Mansfield ROTC program, is a Dean's List student and a key leader of the sprint football program. Despite his busy schedule, Showers remains dedicated to his team both on and off the gridiron. Showers appeared in six games on defense, totaling 15 tackles, with three coming for loss.

Field hockey and softball's
Morgan Berndt was honored for scholarship after being nominated by softball head coach
Edith Gallagher and field hockey head coach
Brittany Hansrote. Berndt, a member of the rare group of dual-sport NCAA Division II student-athletes, maintained a perfect 4.0 during her time at Mansfield as a Biology major with a minor in Spanish. A member of the elite Mansfield President's list, Berndt earned NFHCA Scholar of Distinction Honors this fall.

Men's track & field's
Sean Ringgold was honored for culture after being nominated by Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Marketing
Drew Patrick. The dedication that led Ringgold into becoming a school record holder and PSAC 200-meter dash champion, is the same dedication that the senior has given the University and the community. Ringgold is a team captain, works in the Athletic Communication office, and is a University resident assistant. Ringgold wears many hats at Mansfield and is always putting others above himself. Â

Men's cross country and track & field's
Seth Neal was selected for service and was nominated by track & field assistant coach
Don Cook. Outside of competing in all three seasons (fall, winter, and spring) as one of the top distance runners at Mansfield, Neal is an intern in the Athletic Communication Office, ran play-by-play and color commentary at men's and women's basketball games, and is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member. Neal has traveled to away events to cover other Mountaineer programs and has volunteered time in both the summer and winter working in the Athletic Communication office.
