BB: Mounties edged in pitcher's duel at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Mansfield University baseball team fell in a 2-1 pitcher's duel on the road at Kutztown University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game on Friday afternoon, April 14.

Ryan King tossed his second straight gem for MU, going seven innings and limiting the Golden Bears to two runs (one earned), adding four strikeouts. Josh Colon entered the game in the eighth and did not allow a run, while fanning two KU hitters.

Although they only mustered one run, the Mounties werent kept off the basepaths, as they totaled a game-high 10 hits and 11 baserunners. The Mounties doubled KU in hits, but left eight runners on base and committed three errors.

Zachary Shertzer (3B), Marcus Nales and Zach Spray all finished with two hits, while Brittain Shander scored a run and Jacob Houtz notched the lone RBI.

Jake Skrocki was the story for the Golden Bears, going the distance and allowing just one run to pick up his sixth run of the season.

After Kutztown took an early 1-0 lead after just one inning, the Mounties struck for the equalizer in the top of the third inning when Houtz knocked in Shander with a sacrifice fly.

Kutztown, however, plated what would serve as the game-winner an inning later, as they shut down the Mounties the rest of the way to secure the victory.
