SB: Abigail Sgro Named Mansfield Assistant Softball Coach

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Abigail Sgro has been named the Mansfield University assistant softball coach, Director of Athletics Peggy Carl announced on Thursday, March 2.
 
Sgro will join the staff of 33rd-year Mountaineer softball head coach Edith Gallagher.
 
"I am extremely excited to add Abigail to the Coaching Staff," Gallagher said. "She will make an immediate impact on our pitching staff and team."
 
A four-year pitcher on the Ashland University softball team (2015-2019), Sgro appeared in 32 games, making nine starts for a total of 70.2 innings in her career. Sgro went 5-2 in the circle, tossing four complete games and recorded three saves, while striking out 38 hitters.
 
Sgro graduated from Ashland University with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice in 2019, before beginning the journey to earn her Master's in Sports Administration from Delaware State University in 2022.
 
Sgro began her coaching career as the head coach for the Worthington Middle School softball team, where she built the program from the ground up starting in 2020.
 
Following her time at Worthington, Sgro joined the Delaware State University softball coaching staff, where she spent the past two seasons under head coach Daniel Stockdale.
 
Sgro has also been involved in youth programs, holding private pitching and infield instructions for players ages 8-16, while also coaching travel 14U, 16Um and 18U teams from 2015-present.
 
Sgro holds the school record for single-season strikeouts at Lexington High School, where she was Player of the Year for both Richland Source and Mansfield News Journal, and earned Ohio Cardinal Conference Pitcher of the Year and was first-team All-Ohio as a senior.
 
The Mounties (3-1 overall) begin their spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. by taking on College of Mount Saint Vincent at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 13.
