Leidig Dazzles from 3-point Land; Women’s Basketball Downed at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Mansfield University women's basketball team (3-22, 2-19 PSAC) fell to Kutztown University (12-14, 10-10 PSAC), 71-49, on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18.

Emilie Leidig knocked down a game-high five 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 19 points to lead the way for the Mounties. Leidig made half her attempts from behind the arch, while shooting a total 7-of-13 from the floor. Jasmine Hilton joined Leidig in double figures, adding 11 points and eight rebounds, while Kenedy Stroup pulled in seven rebounds and Cydney Stanton secured a team-high four steals.

The Mounties remained within striking distance through three quarters, but a cold shooting final period allowed Kutztown to put the game away. Kutztown connected on half their shots (8-of-16), while holding Mansfield to 18 percent shooting (2-of-11), while forcing 10 Mountaineers' turnovers.

The turnover bug plagued the Mounties, allowing Kutztown to lead 41-15 in points off turnovers.

The Mounties trailed 33-25 heading into the break after limiting the Golden Bears' offense to 35 percent shooting in the second period.

The Mountaineers best quarter came in the third period, when they outscored Kutztown 18-16. KU made one more shot than MU in the quarter, but Mansfield connected on three triples, led by a pair from Leidig.

For Kutztown, Casey Remolde led two players in double figures with 17 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

The Mounties are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they travel to Millersville University for a 3 p.m. PSAC contest in their season finale.
