MANSFIELD, Pa. –
Alivia Paeglow made the best of her final game inside Decker Gymnasium, notching a career-high 23 points to lead the Mansfield University women's basketball team (3-21, 2-18 PSAC) to a 54-45 victory over Bloomsburg University (9-14, 7-12 PSAC) on Wednesday night, Feb. 15.
Prior to the game, the Mounties celebrated seniors
Madison Fox,
Bella Skatell and Paeglow for their accomplishments in the red and black as part of Senior Night.
Paeglow, who shot 11-of-17 from the floor, scored all 10 of her first-half points in the second quarter to help the Mounties rebound from a slow start to take a 25-19 lead into the break.
After falling behind 11-8 in the opening period, the Mounties flipped the script in the second quarter, outscoring the Huskies, 17-8, thanks to nearly 60 percent shooting from the floor and 50 percent from three.
The Mounties' defense responded as well, holding the Huskies to just three makes on 15 attempts, while doubling their points off turnovers from four to eight.
In the second half, the Huskies didn't quit and shot over 50 percent from the floor in the third quarter to edge out Mansfield, 19-16, and cut the deficit to three.
However, Paeglow came through once again to open the final period, connecting on a 3-point play the old-fashioned way to put the Mounties back up by five, 43-38, with 8:26 to go.
The Huskies gave one last push over the next minute to cut the MU lead to one with seven minutes remaining, but Mansfield responded with a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to take a double-digit lead and ultimately put the game out of reach.
Kristen Fulford had an all-around game at the point, finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Cydney Stanton and
Emilie Leidig also had two steals, while
Kenedy Stroup pulled in six rebounds.
The Mounties forced a game-high 27 turnovers, which led to 23 points. On the other end, MU committed just 12 turnovers, leading to just six points.
Mansfield also led 10-5 in second chance points and 38-22 in paint points.
For the Huskies, Katelin Starr led the way with a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds.
