Milestone Alert! Hilton Scores 1,000th Career Point Against Ship

Junior Jasmine Hilton led the Mounties with 24 points on Saturday.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – With her 20th point against Shippensburg University on Saturday, junior Jasmine Hilton became the 18th player in Mansfield University women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points. The Mounties (2-21, 1-18 PSAC) fell to the second-place Raiders (18-5, 13-4 PSAC), 91-53, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action inside Decker Gymnasium.

Entering the contest needing 20 points, Hilton cut that in half with 10 heading into the break. The junior bested that total in the third period alone, scoring 11 of the Mountaineers 13 points, while knocking down three shots from behind the arch to secure the milestone.

Hilton led all scorers with 24 points, while knocking down 4-of-7 3-pointers and grabbing seven rebounds.

Cydney Stanton had the best game of her young career, scoring 15 points to go with a team-high of nine rebounds. Emilie Leidig added eight points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Kenedy Stroup tied Stanton for the team-lead in rebounds and Kristen Fulford for the team-lead in assists with four.

In the first half, Ship jumped out to an early 22-12 lead after the first period, where they shot an efficient 50 percent from the floor (10-of-20), while holding the Mounties to 24 percent (6-of-24), including 0-of-10 from 3-point land.

The Raiders continued the trend in the second period, extending their lead to 49-26 heading into halftime. Shippensburg forced nine Mountaineer turnovers, only committing one, while improving their shooting to 60 percent, knocking down 12-of-20 shots from the field.

The Raiders built the first-half advantage thanks to 15 points off MU turnovers, while dominating in paint points, 30-14.

Shippensburg put the game away for good in the fourth, outscoring MU, 27-14. Ship had their best period on the offensive end, where they shot 68 percent, knocking down 11 shots on 16 attempts.

For the Raiders, PSAC leading scorer Ariel Jones finished with 18 points and a game-high six assists to lead the way. Taja Colbert scored a team-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shots from the floor.

The Mounties host Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. inside Decker Gym for Senior Day. The Athletic Department will honor seniors Madison Fox, Bella Skatell, and Alivia Paeglow prior to the start of the game.
