INDIANA, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (4-4, 1-2 PSAC) traveled to IUP for the first game of a back-to-back. In Monday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East-West contest, the Mountaineers fell to the IUP Crimson Hawks (5-2, 2-1 PSAC) with a final score of 74-50.
Emilie Leidig finished tied with a team-high 14 points going 5-10 from the field and 4-9 from three.
Jasmine Hilton recorded another double-double totaling 14 points on 5-13 shooting and pulling in 12 rebounds.
Alivia Paeglow added eight points and three rebounds.
The three combined for 36 of Mansfield's 50 points.
The Crimson Hawks began the game on a 7-0 run prompting Mounties coach Amy Senefelder to use an early timeout at the 8:37 mark of the first quarter.
IUP extended their lead to 11-0 before Paeglow was able to get the first Mountaineers points of the night.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania finished the quarter with a 21-11 lead. Mansfield shot 5-8 from the field in the quarter but the Crimson Hawks were able to capitalize on eight first-quarter turnovers from the Mounties as they led by 10 at the end of one.
Mansfield's good shooting continued as they finished the half 11-23 from the field and 3-7 from three. Unfortunately for the Mounties so did the turnovers, the Mountaineers ended the first half with 12 leading to 18 points for the Crimson Hawks. IUP took a 42-27 lead into the break.
Hilton and Paeglow led the way for Mansfield combining for 14 of the team's 27 points in the half.
Leidig was able to bury two triples in the third quarter as she began to find her form again. Bringing her game total to nine points on 3-6 shooting from three.
The Mountaineers couldn't find a rally in the quarter as IUP took the quarter by a score of 16-10 and extended their lead to 21 at the end of the third.
Mansfield fought until the end but was unable to overcome the early deficit as they fell to .500 on the season.
