Mounties Drop Highly Contested Road Bout to Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team dropped a midweek non-conference matchup to Roberts Wesleyan University by a score of 73-69.  
 
Mansfield (4-3) and Roberts (3-6) went back and forth in the second half but the Redhawks pulled away in the final minute. The Mounties struggled from the free throw line, shooting 8-21 which hindered the offense late, while Roberts had a perfect 18-18 day at the free throw line. 
 
Five Mounties scored in double figures with Jasmine Hilton leading the way with 18 points and five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Cydney Stanton had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Alivia Paeglow had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Both Kristen Fulford and Katie Sheeler had ten points each with Sheeler adding five assists. 
 
The Mountaineers got off to a quick start going up 8-4 before an 11-1 run gave the Redhawks back the lead. Hilton guided the Mounties with nine of her points coming in that opening quarter. The Mounties trailed 17-14. 
 
Mansfield found themselves down 36-30 at the half, but Paeglow had a pair of buckets early in the third to give momentum back to the Mountaineers. The Mounties challenged but Roberts Wesleyan held on to a 52-49 lead heading into the final quarter. 
 
Sheeler opened the final quarter with a three-point basket to tie the game, followed by a Paeglow layup to take the lead. Both teams countered as the next minute saw a pair of lead changes. 
 
Fulford tied the game at 69 a piece with a euro-step layup with 1:58 remaining. The Redhawks took the lead for good with 45 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws from Danielle DiCintio. Roberts Wesleyan added another pair of free throws to ice the game and bring the final score to 73-69.
 
Grace Dow was the Redhawks leader scoring a game high 19 points and 16 rebounds.

The Mounties are back in action Monday, Dec. 18 as they travel to take on the Crimson Hawks of IUP.
