Mounties Outlast Chargers on Road to Improve to 3-1

The Mounties earned another road victory on the season after their Monday night win.

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (3-1) traveled to face Dominican University of New York (0-4) as the Mounties outlasted the host, picking up the non-conference victory, 82-75.

Jasmine Hilton inched closer today to the top ten class in career scoring, posting 20 points on the stat sheet and grabbing nine rebounds.

In her first start of the season, Alivia Paeglow stepped up with 17 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing four assists.

Katie Sheeler dropped 14 points and placed two assists on the afternoon.

The Mounties pushed out to an early 14-4 start halfway through the first quarter. Behind Hilton's early success with 12 points, Mansfield held a dominant 25-10 lead after the first quarter.

Into the second quarter, the Mountaineers remained in control, strengthening their lead by the halftime horn, holding a 45-25 lead heading into the locker room. In the first half, the offense posted 54.8% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.

Midway through the third quarter, the Mounties increased their lead after coming out of the half on fire, with Cydney Stanton grabbing her first four points in the opening minutes to hold a 55-29 advantage.

The Chargers found life during a 10-2 run over the next minutes to limit the damage, but the Mounties kept the pressure on to keep the strong lead that was built, taking a 61-41 difference into the final ten minutes.

The host gave the fans the game they came to see, scoring the first 13 points of the quarter to bring the lead down to 61-54.

Halfway through the fourth quarter, Mansfield held a slight advantage and closed the doors on the contest, earning another road victory, 82-75, behind six points from Sheeler in the final minutes.
