SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team (2-1) defeated Penn State Schuylkill (1-5) by a final score of 93-23. The 70-point win sets a new record for the largest margin of victory in program history.
Katie Sheeler finished with a team-high 17 points on 6-10 shooting from the field and 5-8 from three.
Emilie Leidig finished as the second leading scorer putting in 15 points and hauling in eight rebounds.
Minyhah Easterling led the Mountaineers in rebounds, pulling in nine of the team's 55.Â
All 13 Mounties recorded points in the record-setting performance.Â
Mansfield assisted on 26 of their 40 makes and shot a season-high 45.5% from the field.Â
The Mountaineers opened the first five-plus minutes of the game on a 16-0 run thanks to a hot start from the field (6-9), including 4-7 from three.
Mansfield finished the quarter with a 20-2 lead as they were in full control early. Leidig led the Mounties with six points after starting 2-2 from three and Alivia Paeglow picked up an early three assists.Â
Not much changed in the second as the Mountaineers outscored the Nittany Lions 25-4 in the quarter and held a 45-6 lead at halftime.
Sheeler led Mansfield in points for the first half with nine. Lauren Miller and Leidig each added eight going 2-4 on three-point attempts.
The Mounties extended their lead to 50 by the third-quarter media timeout.
Freshman Meghan Kruszka recorded her first career points on a fast break layup right before the end of the third quarter bringing the score to 72-16 at the end of the third quarter.
The Mountaineers finished the game outscoring Penn State Schuylkill 21-7 in the fourth quarter to wrap up their record-breaking day.Â
