Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Mansfield University women's basketball team (1-9, 0-7 PSAC) fell on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action to West Chester University (7-5, 4-2 PSAC), 75-43, on Wednesday night, Jan. 4. 

Jasmine Hilton led the Mountaineers on offense, finishing with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals. Alivia Paeglow added eight points, eight rebounds, one block and a steal, while Emilie Leidig had two 3-pointers to lead the second unit. 

The Golden Rams led from start to finish after jumping out to a blazing start, outscoring MU, 24-9 in the first period. West Chester shot 47 percent from the floor (9-of-19) and a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line, while holding MU to 25 percent from the floor (4-of-16) and forcing four turnovers. 

The Mounties rebounded to outscore West Chester, 20-14 in the second period to trim the deficit to 38-29 heading into the break. The Mounties had one of there best shooting quarters of the season, finishing 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point land, while limiting the Golden Rams to just five makes. Leidig knocked down a pair of triples during a 14-6 run to spark the Mountaineers. 

The Golden Rams took the third quarter with a defensive effort, holding the Mounties to just four points, while scoring 14, before closing things out with a 23-10 fourth quarter to seal the victory. 

For the Golden Rams, Anna McTamney scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting, adding five rebounds. 

The Mounties remain on the road on Saturday, Jan. 7 when they visit East Stroudsburg University at 1 p.m. for a PSAC Eastern Division game.
