BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –
Jasmine Hilton recorded her sixth double-double of the season and her second in as many games to lead the Mansfield University women's basketball team (2-14, 1-11 PSAC), but the Mounties fell on the road to Bloomsburg University (6-10, 4-8 PSAC), 68-53, on Monday night, Jan. 23 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Hilton dominated on both ends of the court, leading the contest with 19 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Front-court partner
Alivia Paeglow pitched in 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, while
Danae Ellzy netted 10 points off the bench to round out the Mounties in double figures.
Kenedy Stroup finished second on the team with six rebounds.
The Huskies scored the opening basket, but MU responded with back-to-back jumpers from Paeglow and Hilton to take their first lead through the opening two minutes.
The Huskies regained the lead on the ensuing possession and held it for the next five minutes until six-straight points from Hilton gave the Mounties a 12-11 lead with 1:50 to go. Each team traded buckets to end the quarter and the Mounties led 14-13 heading into the second.
The Mounties made one more field goal then Bloom in the second quarter, but the Huskies began to attack the rim, and as a result went 5-of-5 at the charity stripe, while the Mounties failed to record an attempt and BU took a 29-26 lead into thew break.
It was the third quarter where the Huskies began to leave their stamp on the game, outscoring MU, 20-8, thanks to 50 percent shooting from the floor, while continuing to get to the foul line, knocking down 6-of-7 attempts. The Mounties knocked down two shots from the field in the third period (2-of-15), while the Huskies made 6-of-12, including two shots from deep.
The Mounties rebounded with their highest scoring period of the night in the final period (19 points), but the Huskies matched their effort with 19 points of their own to close out the victory.
Bloomsburg shot 49 percent (25-of-51) on the night, including over 50 percent from the floor in the third and fourth quarter when they started to pull away.
For Bloomsburg, Emma Gochnauer, Abby Brown, and Lauren Kirsch finished with 12 points to lead the Huskies' offense.
The Mounties remain on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 25 when they travel to California University of Pennsylvania at 5:30 for a PSAC East-West crossover game.
