Kenedy Stroup ignited the defense and
Jasmine Hilton was dominate on offense to power the Mansfield University women's basketball team to a 73-62 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory over Shepherd University on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21 inside Decker Gymnasium.

Stroup filled up the box score, finishing with a game-high five steals, to go with five assists, six rebounds, one block and five points. Stroup's six rebounds all came on the offensive end, helping the Mounties lead the contest with 15 offensive rebounds, leading to a game-high 15 second-chance points.

Hilton, who notched a double-double by have time, finished with a game-high 26 points (10-of-21) and 16 rebounds. Hilton also added four steals and two assists.
Madison Fox had her best game of her Mountaineer career, notching career-highs in points (16) and assists (seven), while knocking down 4-of-9 shots from behind the arch.

Emily Leidig knocked down two shots from deep on her way to 10 points, while
Alivia Paeglow added eight points and six rebounds despite battling foul trouble.

The Mounties came out firing on all cylinders right from the tip, jumping out to an early 19-7 lead after the first period, before extending the lead to 44-24 heading into the break, notching their highest scoring half of the season.

The Mounties defense led to offense, as they plucked 11 of their game-high 14 steals in the first half, while holding the Rams to just seven makes through the first two quarters. Hilton was in complete control in the first half, leading all players with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Rams caught life in the third period, outshooting the Mounties, 20-11, before cutting the deficit to single digits a minute into the fourth quarter, but MU responded with a 9-0 run with five minutes to go to close out the victory.

Mansfield finished with advantages in rebounding (46-39), steals (14-10) and field goals (28-21).

The Mounties lone blemish was ball security, as they led the contest with 24 turnovers, allowing the Rams to slowly creep back into the game in the second half.

For the Rams, Meghan Shipley scored a team-high 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 8-of-11 shooting at the charity stripe.

The Mounties visit Bloomsburg University on Monday night, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. for a PSAC contest.
