Mounties Close Out Regular Season at LHU Qualifier.

LOCK HAVEN Pa.- The Mansfield University Track and Field team completed the 2022 regular season competing on the final day of the LHU Qualifiers on Saturday, May 7. 
 
Before the meet, Head Coach Jamal Johnson recognized seniors Donoven Cook and Ben Chambers that will finish their careers with this season. 
 
Donoven Cook
Jumps/Sprints
Wyncote, Pa.
 
Cook is a three-year member of the track and field program, joining the Mountaineers after competing at Community College of Philadelphia. Cook has been one of the top jumpers for the program, while also providing excelling in multiple sprints. The Wyncote, Pa. native secured his best long jump of his career at the Highlander Invitational during the Indoor Season, notching a mark of 6.84 meters, placing 1st in the meet and second all-time in program history. Cook followed with an 8th-place finish at the PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a mark of 6.73m.
 
Cook has competed in two outdoor meets to date this spring, landing his best long jump at the Hopkins Loyola Invitational with a mark of 6.12 meters, the eighth farthest in program history. 
 
Cook has been a consistent leader of the men's program and was honored as the Culture Creed Award winner by the Athletic Department following the 2020-21 season. Cook will graduate with a degree in business administration.
 
Ben Chambers
Field Athlete / Distance
Mifflinburg, Pa.
 
Native of Mifflinburg, Pa., Chambers, has competed as a field and distance athlete during his three seasons with the Mountaineers. Chambers, who competed in the PSAC Cross Country Championships during the fall, returned to compete in the pole vault during the Indoor and Outdoor Season. Chambers took first place in the pole vault at the Elliston Earlybird Open in April, before notching his personal best with a vault of 3.65 meters at the Hopkins Loyola Invitational later that month. 
 
Chambers competed in the javelin throw during his junior outdoor season, where he secured a career-best mark of 20.42 meters at the LHU Qualifier in 2021. 
 
Chambers will graduate with a degree in political science.
 
The Mounties had solid performances on the day. Junior Skylar Brown continued her breakthrough season picking up a victory in the 100-meter dash. She finished at the top spot in the qualifying round with a time of 12.66. She bested her time in the finals with a 12.51.
 
Mansfield picked up a 4x400 relay victory with the group finishing with a time of 3:25.49. The quartet consisted of senior Sean Ringgold, junior Terrance Quaker, and freshmen Jackson Doughty and Aaron Thomas
 
In the Women's 3K steeplechase, Junior Shelby Alexander finished second with a time of 12:42.60. Junior Bailey Morgan finished third with a time of 12:49.50.  
 
Freshman Seth Neal competed in the men's 3k steeplechase finishing sixth in a time of 10:26.10.
 
Quaker took home a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash crossing the line in 50.96. Freshman Eli Swan finished seventh in that race in a time of 58.05.
 
Freshman Island Blanche finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.35. Aaron Thomas finished tenth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.69.
 
Cook finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.90-meters. 
 
In the women's 800-meter run, the top Mountaineer finisher was sophomore Anna Duncan who finished eighth with a time of 2:32.87, and followed behind by freshman Emily Gerlach finishing 14th with a time of 2:45.29. 
 
Qualified Mounties will compete in the PSAC Championship Meet hosted by Millersville University, next week starting Thursday night, May 12.
