First-Half Woes Doom Mounties Against Seton Hill

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield University women's basketball team fell to Seton Hill University, 69-49, on Saturday night, Dec. 3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover action inside Decker Gymnasium.

The Mounties fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC, while the Griffins improve to 1-1 in conference with a 5-3 overall mark.

Jasmine Hilton continued her dominate start to her junior season, finishing with a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double. Hilton also forced three steals, while shooting 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Senior Alivia Paeglow was second in scoring out of the MU starters, adding six points and two steals, while Danae Ellzy led the second unit with seven points.

After a close first period that saw the Griffins lead by just three, Seton Hill erupted for 23 points, while holding the Mounties to eight to build a 39-21 lead at the break. The Griffins shot 50 percent (9-of-18) from the floor in the second quarter, but it was their defense that sparked the run as they held MU to just three field goals and 0-of-4 from three.

The Mounties improved on both ends of the court in the second half, keeping the third period within two (14-12) and the fourth period within four (16-12), but the Griffins never wavered and led from start to finish to secure the conference victory.

The Griffins led in the turnover margin, 22-17, while outshooting the Mounties by 17 percent.

For the Griffins, Courtney Tomas led two players in double-figures with 12 points and five rebounds.

The Mounties have a week off before hitting the road for a PSAC crossover game at Gannon University on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
