HOUGHTON N.Y - The Mansfield University track and field team had standout performances highlighted by six top place finishes by five athletes at the Highlander Invitational on Saturday Jan. 22nd hosted by Houghton College.
Seniors
Sean Ringgold,
Donoven Cook and
Caden Fisher along with freshmen
Aliyah Serrano and
Abigail Taylor were the Mountie victors.
Ringgold claimed top spot in the 200 and 400-meter dash. He took the 200-meter dash with a season PR time of 22.52, siting just shy of the top in school history. Ringgold's first 400-meter dash of the year clocked in at 51.85.
Cook found the top mark in the long jump. He was joined by junior
Kory Wharton and the pair went first and second in the event with marks of 6.84 and 6.80. They made it dramatic, hitting those top marks on their final jumps of the day. Those marks put the pair in second and third in the Mansfield record book only 0.11 meters off that top spot.
Cook also ran the 200-meter dash finishing with a time of 25.41
Fisher was the victor in the 60-meter hurdles. His best time came in the finals with an 8.99.
Serrano continued her stellar start to her career, winning her first career 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.36. She also took second place in the 200-meter dash with a 26.46 time.
Taylor claimed back-to-back victories in the triple jump, hitting a top mark of 11.14 meters.
Juniors
Skylar Brown and
Nadia Simpson had solid performances in the 60 and 200-meter dashes. The pair finished fifth (27.57) and 13th (29.05) respectively when they joined Serrano in the 200-meter dash. Both qualified for the 60-meter finals and placed fourth (8.24) and fifth (8.30) in the race. Brown's time was the tenth fastest in program history.
Freshman
Aaron Thomas and sophomore
Michael Beals competed for the men in the 60-meter dash. Thomas reached the finals with a days best 7.35 and finished eighth. Beals finished 35th with an 8.17 time.
Junior
Rylie Mong made her 2022 debut finishing second in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.05 meters. Senior
Ben Chambers competed on the men's side finishing 12th clearing 3.05 meters as well. Sophomore
Madison Fox placed third in the high jump clearing 1.51 meters.
Junior
Carly Daniels, freshman Cari Claypool and junior
Shelby Alexander competed in the mile run finishing ninth (5:39.58) 31st (6:11.01) and 32nd (6:13.47). In the men's mile, Sophomore
Abraham Calderon was the top Mountie finishing 23rd with a 4:52.13. Freshman trio
Isaac Showers,
Seth Neal and
Owen Showers rounded out the finishers with times of 4:54.25 (27th), 5:00.07 (37th) and 5:24.36 (62nd).
Sophomore
Anna Duncan finished tenth in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.03. Freshman
Eli Swan finished his 800-meter run in 2:25.38.
Sophomore
Tedra Harrison and freshman
Angie Colon finished in 12th (11:44.7) and 17th (11.59.43) in the 3K.
The Mountaineers are set to return next Saturday Jan, 29 as they travel to Cornell University to take part in the Kane Invitational.
