Whitling Accepts Assistant Position with DI Saint Francis

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Michael Whitling has resigned as head coach of the Mansfield University women's basketball program and has accepted an assistant position at NCAA Division I Saint Francis University under Head Coach Keila Whittington.

"I have appreciated Mike's collegial approach to his work, especially with those in the department," Athletic Director Peggy Carl said. "We are excited for Mike and his family as they enter into this new opportunity and wish them all the very best."

Whitling spent the past five years with the Mounties and became the fastest coach in program history to lead a team to the postseason, guiding Mansfield to a PSAC Tournament berth in his second season at the helm in 2017-18. It was just the third time in program history the Mounties appeared in playoffs and the first time in 11 years.

The 2017-18 season saw the Mountaineers earn the most overall and conference wins since the 2011-12 season. In their next game, visiting Mansfield knocked off Bloomsburg 63-53 on the road for the first time in 33 years and just the second ever win at Nelson Fieldhouse. The Mounties also defeated Millersville 60-54 at Decker Gymnasium for just the fifth win over the Marauders in series history.

Whitling helped two athletes reach All-PSAC honors and two more reach All-ECAC selection during his time at MU.
