Gallagher and Moffett Honored With 2019-20 Steve McCloskey Service Award

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University seniors Meghan Moffett and Mary Kate Gallagher have been named the 2019-20 recipient of the Steve McCloskey Service Award, the athletic office announced on Friday, April 10.

Named in honor of longtime Mansfield Sports Information Director Steve McCloskey who retired during the spring of 2017, the award is presented annually to a student who embodies the Mansfield University spirit and provides exemplary service to the athletic department.

Moffett and Gallagher dedicated their time and efforts to the athletic program and to the sprint football team as the support staff. Moffett and Gallagher's sprint football support staff duties included, but were not limited to: coordinate travel arrangements for away games, attend all practices, fundraisers, meetings and lifting, assist with spring ball practices, attend all home and away football games, organize fundraising events, handle the program's social media account, maintain football equipment, assist in recruiting efforts, help organize and run all summer camps, assist players with paperwork for season, ran weekly study hall sessions, tracked player attendance at manditory events.

Moffett was honored with the Arlyne M. Garrity Award for her outstanding academic achievement within the Communication Department.

"From working with the Mansfield sprint football team, I have realized there will always be wins and losses on and off the field, but as long as you stay focused on the goal you'll succeed," Moffett added. "In life, as in football, you won't go far unless you know where the goal posts are. It's been a pleasure working with the football team as well as everyone else in the athletic department, this experience has made a huge impact on my life."

Moffett, a Bernville, Pa. native, will graduate with a bachelor degree in Communication with a concentration in Sports Information and plans to pursue a degree in either college or professional sports field.

"First of all, I cannot think of any two individuals that deserve this award more than MK and Meghan," Said sprint football coach John Evans, "For me it is like losing a four-year starting quarterback. They have been invaluable to me in keeping the program healthy on a daily basis and I attribute a great deal of our current, and future successes on what they have brought to the football program. To be mentioned in the same sentence as Steve McCloskey right shows honor, integrity, honesty, and hard work. Great choice and congrats to MK and Meghan, you will always have a place in the football office/ field."

Gallegher recently presented post-dam removal stream mitigation research for the Mansfield University Student Scholarship Showcase.

"Coming to college I would have never imagined I would be helping with athletics, let alone becoming a manager for the football team," Gallagher said. "Looking back now, I wouldn't change a single thing. The team really became a second family. I know I have made lifelong connections on and off the field. Thank you again for the honor of this award, I am beyond grateful for the experience of becoming a part of the Mansfield Athletics family and made enough memories for a lifetime."

Glen Mills, Pa. native, Gallagher, will graduate with a bachelor degree in Environmental Science and plans to pursue a career in natural resource management and conservation.
