GLENVILLE, W.V. – Junior
Hunter DePrimo threw seven scoreless innings and the Mansfield University baseball team struck for five runs in the fifth to earn a 5-0 non-conference victory over Concord University in Glenville, W.V. on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23.

DePrimo (2-0) went seven complete innings and did not allow a run while striking out 12 batters. Freshman
Todd Erney did his job out of the bullpen, allowing two runs in two innings and striking out four.

The Mounties rebound from an 0-2 start to the weekend and return to Mansfield with a .500 (3-3 overall) record.

The Mounties scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fifth after a pitchers duel was the story through the first four innings of play. Junior
Ryan Wentzel kicked off the rally with a walk and was followed with a single by freshman
Zach Spray and walk by senior
Eric Senior. With one down in the inning, sophomore
Brittain Shander gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead with an RBI single and senior
Josh Kulina followed with a double down the line to extend the Mounties' advantage to 3-0. Senior
Brady Mengel capped off the inning with a two RBI single to round out the scoring.

Kulina and Mengel each finished with two hits and two RBI to charge the Mounties' offense. Shander also added two base knocks and an RBI. Â

The Mountain Cats (3-3 overall) struck for runs in the eighth and ninth but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

Dan Nicholls (0-1) was dealt the loss for the Mountain Lions, allowing four runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Adam Linkous, Jakob Divers and Anthony Stehlin each finished with two hits to lead Concord.

The Mounties return to Glenville, W.V. next weekend Friday – Sunday, Feb. 28 – March 1 for three sets of games. Mansfield plays the host, Glenville State College at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Fairmont State University at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday and Wheeling University at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday.
