NORRISTOWN, Pa. –
Evan McAndrew struck out eight batters in 7.0 innings of work and
Bryce Zaparzynski closed out the game with 2.0 scoreless innings to lead Mansfield to a 3-1 non-conference win over Chestnut Hill Friday afternoon.

Chestnut Hill (1-9, 0-0 CACC) put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first, but it was Mansfield (3-5, 0-0 PSAC) that struck first in the top of the second inning.
Tyler Guidos led-off the inning by reaching on a hit-by-pitch then moved over on a
Dom Lopez single up the middle. Guidos scored from second on an error by the shortstop.

The Mounties added another run in the third when
Brittain Shander led-off with a double in the gap and moved to third on a fly out.
Brady Mengel gave Mansfield a 2-0 lead by bringing in Shander with a sac fly to right field.

The Griffins got one back in the fifth, putting together a pair of hits to halve their deficit at 2-1.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Mansfield added an insurance run in the top of the eighth when
Josh Kulina plated
Koty Fitzgerald with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Chestnut Hill got runners aboard in both the eighth and ninth innings, but was unable to convert them into runs.

McAndrew earned his second win on the bump this season, striking out eight batters in 7.0 innings with just four hits, one walk, and one earned run allowed. Zaparzynski earned his first save of the year, pitching 2.0 shutouts innings.

Billy Bethel went the distance for the Griffins, but took the loss.

Mansfield plays a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill tomorrow.
