Mounties Seek Third Straight Win at Nyack

MANSFIELD – Coming off their best start to a season since making the playoffs in 2017-18, the Mounties look to secure their third straight win on Tuesday, Nov. 19th when they head to Nyack College.

This will be the first meeting between the Mounties (2-1) and Warriors (0-1).

Mansfield is led by Paige Whitfield & Jasmine Hilton. Whitfield is currently leading the Mountaineers with 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. Hilton is averaging 13.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and is the PSAC East leader in field goal percentage (.692). Kira Merritt currently ranks 3rd in the PSAC in 3-point field goal percentage.

The Mounties currently rank 6th in the PSAC, allowing only 194 points through the first three games. The Mountaineers have shown they are dangerous from long range, ranking 4th in PSAC in 3-point FGM with 24.
 

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Mounties are coming off a win against Frostburg State on Friday, holding off the Bobcats for a 62-53 win at Decker Gym.
  • Freshmen Jasmine Hilton led the Mounties (2-1) with 15 points and four rebounds. Kira Merritt was efficient for the Mountie's offense, netting 4-of-4 trifectas for a total of 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
  • Chelsea Cover recorded 10 points, three rebounds and two assists while junior Paige Whitfield added nine points, four rebounds and five assists in the victory.
  • The Mounties shot 61 percent (8-of-13) from the floor in the third quarter to lead by as much as 20.
  • The Bobcats outrebounded the Mountaineers 38-32; however, Mansfield pulled in 22 defensive rebounds to Frostburg's 18, while holding the Bobcats to nine percent shooting (2-of-21) from 3-point range.

SCOUTING OPPONENT

  • Nyack College was 4-24 in the 2018-19 season.
  • Nyack faced fellow PSAC opponent Lock Haven this past Saturday, losing to the Bald Eagles 75-88.
  • The duo of Kyla Given & Jocelin Wright lead the Warriors. Given currently leads Nyack with 26.0 points, two rebounds, and two assists-per-game. Wright is averaging 16 points per game and has pulled in four rebounds. 

LOOKING AHEAD

  • The Mounties open up PSAC play on the road as they face Seton Hill on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
  • Seton Hill is off to a 4-0 start to the season, their best start since 2009-10.
  • The next day, Sunday Nov. 24th, the Mounties continue with a PSAC conference match-up against CalU beginning at 1 p.m.
