SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team outlasted Shippensburg for 53-50 road victory, on Saturday Feb. 21.

Jenna Burkett was the leading scorer for the Mounties with 12 points
KJ Gordon netted 11 points.
Katie Sheeler led the team in rebounds with seven and had five steals.

Mansfield (4-23, 2-18 PSAC) got off to a quick start striking with an 11-4 run through the first seven minutes of the game, with four different scorers. Shippensburg (3-23, 2-17 PSAC) would close the gap at the end of the first quarter. Mansfield led 13-8.

The Mounties again got off to a quick start extending the lead to as much as 10 in the quarter.  Gordon scored eight of her 11 in the quarter. Mansfield held a 25-15 lead with just over 3:30 to play in the half. The Raiders would close out the half on a 9-0 run, but Mansfield never gave up the lead 25-24.

Mansfield would lose the lead at the start of the third quarter, battling the Raiders to stay with in a basket.
Amiyah Nguyen would tie the game back up at 32-32 inside the final four minutes. Sheeler would hit the go-ahead free throws and battle out the rest of the way to take a five point lead into the final quarter. Mounties up 43-38.

Both teams kept pace with one another through the start of the final quarter. Shippensburg would take the lead entering the final three minutes. Burkett's back-to-back shots would give Mansfield a 50-47 lead with 2:46 remaining.Â

The Raiders would tie the game under a minute to go.
Katie Sheeler would drive and get a layup with 32 seconds remaining to give the Mounties a 52-50 lead. Shippensburg drew up a play but was stopped emphatically on a
Jenna Kasmierski block with six seconds remaining. The Mounties added a free throw and get the 53-50 victory.Â
