WILLIAMSPORT – Mansfield dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Penn College at historic Bowman Field Tuesday evening.
The Wildcats took the opener 5-2 before rallying for the sweep in an 11-6 win.
In game one, Penn College (17-11) scored a pair of runs in the first and another in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Penn College extended its lead to 5-0 with two more runs in the fifth.
In the top of the sixth,
Tyler Guidos plated
Colby Schearer and
Carlos Espinosa to cut the lead to 5-2, but the Mountaineers were unable to rally back.
Devon Sanders earned the win in 6.0 innings of work with Guidos taking the loss.
In game two, Mansfield (9-27) struck first by hanging six runs on the board in the fourth inning highlighted by RBI singles from
Dio Infante,
Brady Mengel, and
Camren Ney. The Wildcats got one back in the bottom of the inning before exploding for 10 runs in the fifth to earn the sweep.
Andrew Gilbert picked up the win in relief with
Billy Gregory taking the loss.
Mansfield hosts Kutztown at Shaute Field on Friday.
