Mounties Drop Senior Day Doubleheader to Shippensburg

MANSFIELD – Bryce Zaparzynski was stellar on the mound in game two, but Shippensburg came away with a pair of shutout wins to spoil Senior Day for Mansfield at Shaute Field on Saturday.

Shippensburg (20-17, 10-10 PSAC East) won the opener 7-0 before edging Mansfield 1-0 in the nightcap.

In game one, Shippensburg scored a run in the top of the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead. The Raiders tacked on three more unearned runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Mansfield (9-23, 3-17 PSAC East) was limited to just three hits in the game.

Andy Crum earned the complete game shutout victory with seven strikeouts. Luke Hils also went the distance and struck out six batters in the loss.

In game two, each side got its first hit and advanced a runner to third base in the second inning, but neither could drive in the go-ahead run. Shippensburg broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning with what would prove to be the game-winning run on Nick Spangler's RBI single.

The Mountaineers totaled five hits in the game, but were unable to score a run.

Michael Hope pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts for the Raiders. Zaparzynski spun a gem on the mound for Mansfield, going 7.0 innings with just one earned run and three strikeouts.

Mansfield is scheduled to play Penn College at historic Bowman Field in Williamsport on Tuesday.
