Baseball Falls to Northwood

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Mansfield let a pair of early leads slip away as Northwood struck late to earn a 25-9 win on Wednesday.

Northwood (9-6, 0-0 GLVC) opened the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run homer to centerfield.

However, Mansfield (3-6, 0-0 PSAC) pounded out six runs in the second inning to take its first lead of the game. Tyler Guidos got the party started, scoring on a fielding error, before Owen Lukens plated a pair of runs with his single into the gap in right. Spencer Zuraski drove in a run with a sac fly then J.P. Bonanca brought in another with a double down the right field line. A Colby Schearer RBI single capped the scoring and gave the Mounties a 6-2 advantage.

Two innings later, the Timberwolves evened the score with four runs in the fourth, but Mansfield responded with three of their own in the bottom of the frame. Camren Ney drew a bases-loaded walk before Schearer and Zuraski crossed home on a throwing error to put the Mountaineers back on top 9-6.

It was all Northwood for the rest of the game with the Wolves scoring 19 unanswered runs over the next five innings to win big.

Dio Infante was 3-4 at the plate with two runs for Mansfield. Five other Mounties collected hits in the game.
