KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Mountaineer baseball team dropped its Florida opener 18-9 to Rockhurst of the GLVC Saturday afternoon.

Rockhurst (4-6, 0-0 GLVC) hung eight runs in the first inning to jump out to a big lead. The Hawks went on to score three more runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 11-0.

Rockhurst continued to plate runs with another in the third and four more in the fourth inning.

The Mounties got on the board in the fourth, scoring three runs highlighted by
J.P. Bonanca's homer. Mansfield (3-2, 0-0 PSAC) posted five runs in the fifth and another in the eighth, but could not close the deficit.

Colby Schearer went 3-3 at the plate with a pair of triples. Bonanca was 2-5 and hit his first home run of the season.

Mansfield pitched by committee in the game with eight different players seeing an inning of action on the mound.

The Mountaineers take on Northwood tomorrow night.
