MANSFIELD –
Taylor Sweeney set the pace for Mansfield scoring 21 points, but a big first-half effort from Felician was too much for the Mounties who fell by a score of 67-63 Thursday night at First Citizen's Community Bank Court.
Felician (2-5, 0-1 CACC) used an early 12-2 run to force a Mansfield (1-6, 0-2 PSAC) timeout just three minutes into the game. The Mounties would climb back from the deficit with back-to-back buckets by Sweeney to pull Mansfield back to within five at 12-7. Felician would not relinquish their lead in the first half however, stretching the lead to as far as 18. Jaylen Brown poured in 11 first-half points for the Golden Falcons on their way to a 41-24 halftime lead.
Mansfield came out of the locker room on fire, with three straight buckets from senior guard
Tyler Moffe who finished with 20 points on the night. The Mounties opened the second-half on 8-0 run that forced an early Felician timeout with their lead cut to 11. The Golden Falcons would recover however, with back-to-back Jaylen Colon buckets to push the lead back to 15.
Mansfield would start to rally with just under eight minutes left in the game, when a Moffe 3-pointer cut the Felician lead to single digits at 59-50.
Mike Rell forced a Felician timeout at the six-minute mark with a 3-pointer of his own to cut the lead to six. With just under two minutes left to play, junior
Garrett Cook buried a 3-pointer to pull Mansfield to within three at the under-four media timeout.
With under a minute left in the game, a Mansfield foul sent Felician's Zamir Wright to the line where he hit all three of his free-throws. This would push the Felician lead to 64-58 and they would not look back, taking the contest by a score of 67-63.
Jaylen Colon and Zamir Wright would lead in scoring for the Golden Falcons with 17 and 16 points respectively.
Mansfield finished shooting 33% (22-66) from the field, and 35% from beyond the arc. They were led by
Taylor Sweeney with 21 points and
Tyler Moffe with 20 points on offense.
The Mounties next game comes on the road this Saturday with a matchup against Clarion with tip-off set for 3 p.m.
