RALEIGH, N.C. –
Garrett Cook and
Tyler Moffe combined for 39 points for Mansfield, but St. Augustine's used a 29-7 run over the final eight minutes of the game to rally for an 89-74 win Sunday afternoon at the Shaw Tournament.
The Mountaineers led for the majority of the first half, holding its biggest advantage at nine points. However, St. Augustine's (2-0, 0-0 CIAA) closed the gap and held a 35-34 lead at halftime.
After five lead changes through the opening of the second half, Mansfield (0-2, 0-0 PSAC) was in control and jumped out to a 67-60 lead following a Cook 3-pointer. The Falcons took over the lead for the final time and used a big run to secure its second win of the season.
Cook connected on 6-10 attempts from beyond the arc on his way to a season-high 20 points with Moffe adding 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Boz Bernstein and
Taylor Sweeney each chipped in 14 points.
Tyre Gathright and Jalen Gaddy each scored a game-high 24 points to pace the Falcons.
St. Augustine's shot a red hot 57.9% (11-19) from distance and recorded just 6 turnovers to the Mounties' 14.
Mansfield completes a three-game road trip by traveling to Roberts Wesleyan on Nov. 20.
