Five Mounties in Double Figures in Loss at West Chester

MANSFIELD – Brielle Kelly topped five Mountaineers with 23 points but a slow second quarter propelled West Chester to a 91-73 victory.

Kelly hit nine field goals for Mansfield (4-10, 2-6 PSAC) while shooting 5-6 from the free throw line on her way to a game-high 23 points. The senior has scored 13 points from the line in the past two games. Kelly is now just 17 points away from sixth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,226 points.

Mary Kate Rumbaugh was just short of going double-double with 13 points and a game-high nine boards. Alyssa Mullins chipped in 12 points and six assists while Melanie Taylor and Erin Gibbons each added 10 points of their own.

West Chester (8-4, 5-3 PSAC) was led by Mia Hopkins with 19 points and nine rebounds.

After the Golden Rams jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, the Mountaineers came back to make the first quarter a back-and-forth battle. The Mounties trailed by just one before the Rams went off to lead 45-32 at the half.

Mansfield was unable to overcome the deficit but matched their opponents scoring in the next frame. West Chester outscored the Mounties 19-14 in the final quarter to secure the 91-73 decision.

The Mountaineers return home to host Millersville in a rare Monday night match-up at Decker Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
