Lock Haven Gets Past Mounties

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Jeremiah Worthem scored a team-best 21 points but it would not be enough as Mansfield dropped a PSAC East contest to Lock Haven 88-80 on Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

Lock Haven (4-7, 2-3 PSAC) got off to a hot start, holding a 10-2 lead through the first three minutes, but a Worthem jumper and Malik Carter 3-point brought the Mansfield (4-6, 3-4 PSAC) deficit down to three points. The Mountaineers came within one point on three different occasions before evening the game at 29-29 at the 5:50 mark in the first half.

The Mounties never gained the lead in the first half, but took a 39-39 tie into halftime.

After two more ties in the second half, Mansfield took its first lead since the opening bucket on a Worthem lay-up three minutes in. Lock Haven regained the lead and held a slim advantage for the next five minutes. Each side went back and forth before an LHU run gave the Bald Eagles a 70-62 lead with just under eight minutes remaining.

A 7-0 run capped by a pair of Matt Tamanosky free throws brought the game within one point at 70-69, but the Mounties could pull no closer.

Worthem was 10-20 from the floor and added five rebounds. Carter added 14 points with six rebounds and six assists. Andreas Katopodis chipped in 10 points with Cedrick Powell adding nine points. Tamanosky, Tyler Moffe, and Gerasimos Koutoufas each scored eight points.
