MANSFIELD –
Tyler Moffe scored a season-high 21 points to lead Mansfield past Cheyney 72-45 Wednesday night at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.
Prior to the game seniors
Andreas Katopodis and
Gerasimos Koutoufas were honored as part of the Greek Night celebration.
Moffe knocked down eight field goals, including four 3-pointers, to lead all scorers.
Jeremiah Worthem posted 12 points and seven rebounds with
Malik Carter adding 10 points and five steals for Mansfield (6-11, 5-9 PSAC).
Koutoufas scored nine points off the bench with
Dan Ransom adding six points and five rebounds.
Amir Boney was the only player from Cheyney (2-15, 2-11 PSAC) to score in double figures, registering 10 points to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
The Mountaineers jumped out to an 8-0 start, but held just a 12-10 advantage at the midway point of the first half. Cheyney used a 9-0 run minutes later to hold their biggest lead of the game at 21-14, but the Mounties countered with a 7-0 run to tie the game.
Mansfield held a 31-26 lead into halftime.
The Mounties did not look back in the second half, outscoring Cheyney 41-19 to cruise to their second straight PSAC East victory.
The win keeps the Mountaineers in PSAC playoff contention, taking sole possession of sixth place in the Eastern Division.
Mansfield travels to Millersville on Saturday for a key divisional match-up.
