BLOOMSBURG –
Brielle Kelly scored a game-high 30 points to lead Mansfield to a key 63-53 PSAC East victory over Bloomsburg in the Mounties' first win at Nelson Field House since 1986.
It marked just the second time that Mansfield has ever defeated the Huskies on the road and the 10
th victory in 75 series meetings. The Mountaineers earns back-to-back PSAC wins for the first time since the 2011-12 season after a 71-54 final over Shippensburg on Wednesday.
Bloomsburg (6-13, 3-10 PSAC) took a five-point lead on Alyssa Mack's 3-pointer four minutes into the game, but
Alyssa Mullins countered with a trey of her own on the following possession. The Huskies held their biggest lead of the game at seven points to end the first quarter with a 20-13 advantage.
With under three minutes to play in the half, a pair of free throws by
Erin Gibbons gave Mansfield (7-12, 5-8 PSAC) its first lead since the opening points of the game at 25-24. The Mountaineers took a 29-27 lead into the break.
Mansfield led for the entire third quarter, holding its biggest advantage of six points twice.
A pair of Kelly free throws and a Gibbons lay-up to open the fourth quarter gave the Mounties the biggest lead of the game at 10 points. The Huskies pulled within four with just over three minutes remaining, but Mansfield held on for the historic win.
It was the third game this season that Kelly has registered 30 or more points after connecting on 8-of-15 shots from the field and 14-of-15 free throws. The senior also pulled down seven rebounds in the win.
Gibbons went a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line to total 13 points.
Mary Kate Rumbaugh pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with eight points. Mullins chipped in seven points.
Bloomsburg was led by Meghan Corridoni's 14 points.
Mansfield's five conference wins are the most since the 2011-12 season. The win puts Mansfield in a three-way tie for third place in the PSAC East standings along with Millersville and Kutztown.
Mansfield returns to First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium to host Cheyney on Wednesday.
