Men’s Basketball Downs Bloomsburg 92-85 on the Road to Snap Losing Streak

BLOOMSBURG – Malik Carter and Jeremiah Worthem combined for 39 points as Mansfield snapped an eight-game losing streak with a key 92-85 PSAC East win at Bloomsburg Saturday.

Bloomsburg (10-7, 6-7 PSAC) led for the majority of the first half and held a slight 30-27 advantage with five minutes remaining in the first half. However, Mansfield (5-11, 4-9 PSAC) ripped off a 15-2 run to close out the half with a 44-32 advantage. The Mounties scored the final 10 points of the frame unanswered.
 
Mansfield continued to roll in the second half, holding a 16-point advantage at 54-38 with over 16 minutes left in the game. The Huskies rallied with a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to pull within five points.
 
The Mountaineers responded by scoring 13 unanswered points, aided by 3-pointers from Carter and Gerasimos Koutoufas to hold a 69-51 lead. A Reilly Collins lay-up minutes later gave Mansfield its biggest lead of the game at 21 points.
 
Bloomsburg would not go away quietly, using a 20-4 run to close back within five points at 79-74 with just over three minutes to play in the game. The Huskies were unable to close the gap as Mansfield held on for the win.
 
Carter paced Mansfield (5-11, 4-9 PSAC) with 20 points, connecting on 7-11 field goals and 5-6 free throws. Worthem totaled 19 points and pulled down six rebounds.
 
Tyler Moffe knocked down a pair of 3-pointers on his way to a season-best 15 points while dishing out five assists. Matt Tamanosky posted 14 points with five boards.
 
Cedrick Powell recorded a season-best eight assists and Jahmir Green came off the bench to match his career-high in rebounds with six.
 
Bloomsburg (10-7, 6-7 PSAC) was led by Hashim Moore with 21 points and nine rebounds. Christian Mortellite and Khary Mauras used the three-ball to each score 17 points in the game.
 
The Mountaineers connected on a season-high 61.1% (33-54) of shots from the floor including 50% (8-16) from beyond the arc.
 
The win also snapped a series streak of four straight wins for the Huskies over Mansfield.
 
Mansfield returns to First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium on Wednesday to host Cheyney.
