Baseball Falls Twice at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – Mansfield baseball dropped both ends of a PSAC East doubleheader at Bloomsburg Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies used a big fifth inning to roll to a 15-3 win in the opener before walking off in game two 8-6.

Bloomsburg (15-11-1, 5-4-1 PSAC East) jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first four innings before Colby Schearer put the Mountaineers on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the third. Tanner Klein cut the Husky lead to 5-3 with an RBI single into left field.

Bloomsburg responded by hanging 10 runs in the bottom of the inning to take an insurmountable lead.

Mike Warren allowed six hits and struck out eight over 5.0 innings to earn the win. Edwin Lopez took the loss.

In game two, Bloomsburg went ahead in the bottom of the first, but a Ryan Paige solo shot in the next inning evened the score at 1-1.

The Huskies regained the lead with one run in the third and two in the fourth.

In the fifth, singles by Scott Rockwell and Schearer put runners on the corners before Taylor Hillson drove in a run. A Dio Infante double down the left field line plated two more runs. Paige drilled a two-run homer to put Mansfield on top 6-4.

Bloomsburg knotted the game at 6-6 before Cole Swiger hit a walk-off home run in the seventh to lift the Huskies to the win.

Ashton Raines went the distance on the mound for Bloomsburg and struck out seven to earn the win. Tyler Guidos was saddled with the loss.

Mansfield will finished the four-game series at Shaute Field on Monday.
