Longball Dominates in Split with Bloomsburg

MANSFIELD – Shaute Field saw 10 home runs leave the park as Mansfield and Bloomsburg fought to a PSAC East split on Monday afternoon.

The Mountaineers powered their way to a 13-4 win in the opener before falling 12-5.

Bloomsburg (15-12-1, 5-5-1 PSAC East) scored three runs on five hits in the top of the first, but it didn't faze the Mounties who responded in the bottom of the inning as Peter Pena drilled a solo shot to center before Tanner Klein sent a two-run homer over the left field fence to tie the game at 3-3.

Mansfield (16-16, 5-7 PSAC East) took the lead in the third when Ryan Paige plated a run with a double in the gap then later scored on an error. In the fourth, RBIs by Taylor Hillson, Dio Infante and Pena extended the lead to 8-3.

Brady Mengel kept the run parade going in the fifth with an RBI single to left followed up by Colby Schearer's RBI double. Hillson hit a two-run homer to bring the Mansfield run total to 12.

Pena hit his second home run of the game in the sixth as the lead-off batter.

Luke Hils battled back from a rough first inning to earn his third win of the season.

In game two, Klein helped his own cause by driving in a run in the bottom of the first to give Mansfield an early lead, but the Huskies put up three runs in the second and two more in the third.

Infante drilled a lead-off homer in the bottom of the third to get one back, but Bloomsburg added three more in the fourth to lead 8-2. Pena drove in a run in the fourth and Infante hit his second home run of the game in the sixth, but Mansfield could not overcome the deficit.

Ryuta Amaike earned the win on the mound for Bloomsburg and hit two home runs. Brett Alaimo earned the save.

The Mountaineers travel to Slippery Rock on Wednesday for a single nine inning game.
