CLEARWATER, Fla. – Freshman
Tyler Guidos tossed 5.2 innings of shutout ball and
Peter Pena went 3-4 at the plate to lead Mansfield past Minnesota Crookston 7-2 in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Mountaineers dropped the opening game 5-3 in nine innings.
Â
Mansfield (8-7) put up a run in each of the first two innings with Pena and
Taylor Hillson driving in runs.
Brady Mengel gave the Mountaineers a four-run lead in the third when he laced a bases loaded double down the left field line to score
Wes Custer and
Ryan Paige.
Â
Guidos allowed his first hit of the game to Crookston (6-6) in the bottom of the third.

In the fifth, Mansfield found itself in another bases-loaded situation when
Scott Rockwell drove in Pena before Paige scored on a fielding error by the left fielder to extend the lead to 6-0.

Custer drove in the seventh run of the game for Mansfield in the sixth. Crookston got runs back in the sixth and seventh but couldn't overcome its deficit.

Guidos moved to 2-0 on the season, allowing just five hits and one earned run. He issued just one walk and struck out two batters.

Starting pitcher Gabriel Cavasos got the loss.

In game one, Crookston put two runs on the board in the top of the first before
Dalton Lewis halved the lead with an RBI in the second inning. The Golden Eagles bumped their lead up to 5-1 with three runs in the fourth.

Chavarria drove in a Mansfield run with a sac fly in the sixth and Hillson stole home on a heads up play to bring the lead down to just two runs. However, a comeback would not be in the cards for the Mounties.

Evan McAndrew struck out five through 6.0 innings in the loss.
Bryce Zaparzynski looked great in his debut on the mound, allowing just one hit in 3.0 innings while striking out two.

Mansfield is off on Thursday before taking on Seton Hill and Ohio Dominican on Friday.
