Mounties Fall to Crookston on Late Run

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Zach Frazier hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Minnesota Crookston to a 5-4 win over Mansfield Tuesday at Jack Russell Stadium.
 
Mansfield got a runner on third in each of the first two innings but was unable to bring either home. Crookston (5-5) scored an unearned run on a failed pick-off error in the fourth before adding three more runs in the fifth to lead 4-0.
 
Dio Infante drew a lead-off walk in the top of the sixth and later scored on a Ryan Paige RBI single to cut the Mansfield (7-6) deficit to three runs.
 
In the seventh, Wes Custer pinch hit and slapped a two-out single through the left side before a Taylor Hillson got aboard with a walk. Infante's RBI single to left field drove in pinch runner Eric Harms from second base then Hillson scored after an error to bring the Mounties within a run. Peter Pena evened the score with an RBI single to left field to bring home Infante.
 
Mansfield loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth but a strikeout ended the threat for Crookston. The Golden Eagles threatened with a runner on third in the bottom of the inning, but relief pitcher Joe Grober struck out the last batter swinging to head to the ninth inning.
 
Crookston retired the side in order in the ninth before hitting the game-winner.
 
Aaron Hollcraft got the win, pitching the final inning in relief. Grober was hit with the loss.
 
Grober allowed just three hits and struck out four batters in 4.0 innings on the bump. Starting pitcher Ridge Walker struck out four batters through 4.0 innings worked.
 
Pena and Paige each recorded two hits in the game for the Mountaineers.
 
Mansfield will look to avenge the loss with a pair of nine inning games against Crookston on Wednesday.
