Women’s Basketball Falls to Red-Hot Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG – Tianna Jackson scored a game-high 18 points as Mansfield played red-hot Shippensburg tough before falling 71-56 in PSAC East play on Saturday at Heiges Field House.
 
Jackson gave Mansfield an early lead, knocking down a 3-pointer on the Mounties' opening possession. Shippensburg led by as many as four points in the first quarter and held a slim 14-12 lead at the end of the frame.
 
Shippensburg increased its lead in the second quarter leading by its biggest margin of the game at 13 points before taking a 35-24 advantage into halftime.
 
The Lady Raiders maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half to win their 15th straight game.
 
Jackson hit a pair of threes and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line to record double-figure scoring for the fourth straight game. It marked Jackson's highest point total since scoring 19 against Le Moyne on Dec. 19.
 
Bella Ricci added nine points with Mary Kate Rumbaugh and Brielle Kelly each scoring seven points for the Mounties.
 
Stephanie Knauer led Shippensburg with 18 points and 10 boards.
 
Mansfield connected on 32.1% (18-56) of shots from the floor and 80.0% (16-20) from free throw.
 
The Mountaineers return home on Wednesday to host Bloomsburg at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium. Wednesday is YMCA Day with free tickets available at the Tioga County Branch YMCA in downtown Mansfield. The game will also be a black out with all fans encouraged to wear black.
