Second Quarter Sets #5 IUP Ahead of Mounties

MANSFIELD – Brielle Kelly and Melanie Taylor combined for 30 points but Mansfield could not comeback after a slow second quarter dropping a PSAC contest to IUP Saturday afternoon.

Taylor had a near perfect game, shooting 4-4 from the floor, connecting on both her attempts from beyond the arch. The senior went 50% from the line and grabbed two rebounds.

Kelly has surpassed athletes on the Mansfield (3-7, 1-4 PSAC) all-time scoring list in each of the last three consecutive games. She now sits at 13th having just passed Beth Guiliani and is 20 points away from Lynelle Mosley (1,110).

Mary Kate Rumbaugh added eight points and four rebounds while Alyssa Mullins grabbed a team-high eight boards. Freshman Paige Whitfield was strong down low grabbing seven rebounds and two points of her own.

The Mountaineers started off strong scoring 11 points to IUP's (9-0, 5-0) 13. Kelly went 2-5 from the floor, sinking her one trey of the game. The Crimson Hawks picked up the pace to lead by 18 going into the half before securing the 74-48 victory.

Megan Smith led the Mountaineers with 29 points while Maura D'Anna grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Mounties hit the road for Le Moyne on Dec. 17 before heading into Christmas break.
