ROCHESTER, N.Y. –
Malik Carter scored a game-high 22 points and
Jeremiah Worthem pulled down 18 rebounds as Mansfield avenged last week's overtime loss with an 82-66 victory at Roberts Wesleyan Tuesday night.
The game opened as a back-and-forth affair, but neither side could build more than a two-possession lead. An
Eli Alvin lay-up with under five minutes to play in the half was the eighth lead change of the game as Mansfield (4-3, 3-1 PSAC) took the advantage and would never relinquish. The Mountaineers ended the half on a 10-1 run to hold a 43-34 lead at halftime.
Roberts Wesleyan (7-2, 0-0 ECC) pulled within five points early in the second half, but the Mounties did not allow their lead to dwindle any further. Leading 49-41, Mansfield used a 13-2 run to jump out to its biggest advantage of the night at 18 points with 11:32 to play in the game.
The lead never fell below double digits as Mansfield cruised to the non-conference win.
Carter hit six field goals and was 10-12 from the free throw line to pace all scorers with 22. He also pulled down eight rebounds.
Tamanosky moved closer to the 1,000 point milestone with 16 points in the win. The senior is now just 11 points from becoming the 26
th player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career. He was 7-11 from the floor in the game.
Worthem posted 14 points and had a monster day on the boards, pulling down a career-high 18.
Cedrick Powell and
Tyler Moffe each chipped in nine points. Powell dished out six assists with Moffe pulling down six rebounds.
Peyton McLaurin scored a team-high 17 points for Roberts.
The Mountaineers held Roberts to just 35.3% (26-68) shooting on the night while connecting on 50.0% (27-54) shots of their own.
Mansfield hosts defending PSAC West Champion IUP on Satuday at Decker Gymnasium. The game is a White Out with all fans in attendance encouraged to wear white to support the Mounties.
