Kelly Surpasses 1,000 Points, Mullins Goes Double-Double to Down Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Brielle Kelly became the 17th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone in the 77-73 victory over Seton Hill Saturday.

Kelly's early layup took the senior over the 1,000 point cusp on her way to topping four Mountaineers in double-digit scoring.

Senior Alyssa Mullins recorded her second double-double in Mansfield's (3-1) third win of the season. This is the best start for the women's basketball program since the 2010.

The Mounties opened up with a thirteen-point run to put Mansfield in front 13-2 five minutes into the game. Seton Hill (1-3) sunk a pair of treys in the last minute but the women were able to hold a 20-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Griffins tied the score twice in the opening two minutes of the second frame before the Mounties were able to take the lead off a three from McKenzie Hatch. The teams battled before Mansfield pulled ahead to lead 38-31 going into the half.

Seton Hill knocked down six unanswered points to open the second half before the Mountaineers responded with their own six. Mansfield saw its largest lead of the game at 17 points during the perfect frame as it went 7-7 from the line.

The Griffins refused to go out without a fight, stripping Mansfield's lead to one with 22 seconds left in the game. Mary Kate Rumbaugh and Mullins each drew fouls and made free throws to secure the 77-73 victory for the Mountaineers.

Kelly went 9-15 from the floor and a nearly perfect 8-10 from the free throw line to score a season-high 26 points. Mullins also went 75 percent from the line while grabbing 11 boards and adding three assists.

Rumbaugh and Gibbons each dropped double digits, scoring 13 and 11 points respectively. Erin Gibbons also contributed six assists while Rumbaugh totaled eight rebounds. Hatch recorded seven points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Mansfield shot 50 percent from the floor, 83 percent from the line, and held a 38-24 advantage in boards.

Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The women are back in action tomorrow at California with a 1 p.m. tip-off.
