Tamanosky Tops Five Mounties in Double-Figures in 87-73 Win over Cheyney
CHEYNEY –
Matt Tamanosky scored a game-high 23 points to top five Mountaineer players in double-figures in leading Mansfield to convincing 87-73 win over Cheyney in a PSAC East matchup Friday at Cope Hall.
The win was the second straight conference victory for the Mountaineers who improved to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Mansfield led for almost all of the game, taking as much as a 12-point advantage in the first half before Cheyney cut the lead to 36-31 at halftime.
Mansfield extended its lead throughout the second half, helped by the hot outside shooting of junior guard
Andreas Katopodis who exploded for a season-high 18 points including 17 points in the second half hitting 5-of-6 three-pointers.
Tamanosky, who scored a career-best 31 points in a 106-102 win over West Chester on Tuesday, had 10 points in the first half at Cheyeny hitting all four of his shots from the floor. The PSAC's leading shooter in field goal percentage, Tamanosky ended the night hitting 9-of-11 attempts from the floor and 5-7 from the free throw line.
Mansfield never trailed after the first three minutes of play, leading by as many as 17 points with just under three minutes to play.
Also scoring in double-figures for the Mountaineers were
Cedrick Powell who put up a season-high 19 points with nine assists and six rebounds.
Malik Carter added 12 points and six assists while
Gerasimos Koutoufas scored 10 points.
Rafiq Marshall topped Cheyney with 17 points.
Mansfield is now in a three-way tie for fourth-place in the PSAC East going into Monday Night's Showdown with undefeated Shippensburg at First Citizens Community Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium.
