Box Score 2 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Late Mansfield Rally Ends in Rare Tie with Lock Haven

MANSFIELD – Mansfield rallied for nine runs over the final three innings, including five in the bottom of the seventh, to force extra innings with Lock Haven Friday afternoon in PSAC East play at Shaute Field before the game was called a tie due to unplayable field conditions.

It marks just the second tie in head coach
Harry Hillson's 30-year career and is the first since the 1997 season when Mansfield tied Rockhurst (Mo.) 6-6 in Florida.

Lock Haven (19-28-1, 7-18-1 PSAC East) held off a late Mountie surge to win the opener 5-4.

In game two, Lock Haven was first to take the lead, scoring four runs in the top of the third. The Mounties got one back in the fifth on
Tanner Klein's single up the middle, but the Eagles put up a five-spot in the sixth to lead 9-1.

In the bottom of the sixth,
Ryan Paige's RBI-double scored a run before
Peter Pena drove in another with a sac fly.Â
Taylor Hillson stroked a ball through the left side scoring the third run of the inning and bringing the Mansfield (18-25-1, 6-19-1 PSAC East) deficit to 9-4.

After a scoreless top of the seventh, Mansfield loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame with three straight one-out singles.
Hunter Huyett hit an infield single to score a run and keep the bases loaded before Hillson drove in another. A wild pitch allowed Paige to score and cut the lead to 9-7.

Lock Haven forced a fly out in shallow right field for its second out, but
Zephan Kash and
Tanner Klein came up with huge RBI-singles to tie the game at 9-9. The Eagles got the third out on a called strike out to force extra innings.

The rain that steadily fell throughout the game, increased to a drizzle and the game was called by the umpires.

Ethan Moore's solo homer opener the scoring in game one before Jamie Eshleman gave the Bald Eagles a 4-0 lead with a three-run round-tripper in the fourth.

Wes Custer put the Mounties on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle to score Hillson. In the next inning, Rockwell evened the score by clearing the bases with a three-run double in the gap.

Lock Haven added a run in the sixth that would stand for the win.

Brett Morrison earned the win in relief while Nick Hornbaker picked up a save.

The Mountaineers will close out the 2016 season tomorrow at Lock Haven.
