#3 Millersville Takes Two from Mounties in PSAC East Opener

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: #3 Millersville Takes Two from Mounties in PSAC East Opener

MILLERSVILLE – No. 3 Millersville edged Mansfield 3-1 in the nightcap to take two from the Mountaineers in Friday's PSAC East opener at Cooper Park. The Marauders won game one 6-2.

Taylor Hillson tripled on the very first pitch of the game and later scored on a Zephan Kash sacrifice fly to take an early lead on Millersville (17-1, 2-0 PSAC East). However, Mansfield (8-8, 0-2 PSAC East) conceded a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Millersville took the lead on Aaron Taylor's solo home run in the third and got another run from Ted Williams later in the inning to hold a 3-1 advantage.

Kash got aboard with a walk in the fourth before Ryan Paige drove an RBI double into left field to bring the Mounties within a run. But, a Marauder run in the bottom of the inning made it a two-run game once again. Millersville added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the opener.

Marauder ace Brandon Miller earned the complete game win allowing two earned runs, two walks and four hits while striking out 11. Chase Pepper took the loss after giving up 10 hits and five earned runs over 5.2 innings worked.

In game two, Millersville got on the board first with an unearned run in the third inning. Mansfield tied the game in the fifth with Tanner Klein getting aboard via a lead-off single before scoring an unearned run on a fielding error.

Millersville responded with a go-ahead run in the bottom of the frame and added another in the sixth.

Mansfield starter Tommy Alexander allowed seven hits and just one earned run in the loss. Cordell Shannon went the distance to earn the win allowing three hits and striking out five.

Mansfield hosts the nationally-ranked Marauders at the friendly confines of Shaute Field Saturday.
