MANSFIELD –
Brielle Kelly scored a team-high 14 points, but Mansfield couldn't overcome a hot-shooting Seton Hill in a 91-68 home opener loss Saturday at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium.
Kelly hit 5-10 from the floor and
Bella Ricci came off the bench to score 10 points to lead Mansfield (1-1, 0-1 PSAC) offensively.
Alyssa Mullins and
Tianna Jackson each chipped in nine points.
Micaiah Battle pulled down a team-high five rebounds and added eight points.
Halie Torris was 9-of-12 from the floor including 2-of-3 from 3-point to lead Seton Hill (2-1, 1-0 PSAC) in scoring with 22 points in just 15 minutes off the bench. Jenna Kaufman put up 15 points with Chrisanna Green recording a game-high eight boards along with 12 points.
The Griffins connected on 56.9% (37-65) of field goal attempts including 43.5% (10-23) from beyond the arc.
The opening minutes saw six lead changes before Seton Hill jumped out to a 19-12 lead. The Griffins ended the quarter on a 13-6 run to hold a 26-18 advantage.
A Mullins jumper and two good Battle free throws brought Mansfield's deficit down to just four points, but the Griffins used a 9-0 run to jump back out to a 35-22 lead. Seton Hill closed out the quarter with its biggest lead of the half at 20 points.
Seton Hill maintained a healthy lead for the remainder of the game to pick up its first PSAC victory on the road.
The Mounties host No. 5 California on Sunday.
