Koutoufas and Tamanosky Top Six Mounties in Double-Figures in Win Over PSU Brandywine

BRANDYWINE – Gerasimos Koutoufas and Matt Tamanosky both scored a game-high 16 points while Malik Carter, Matt Tamanosky, Cedrick Powell, Jahyde Gardiner and Da'Quan Jones all scored in double-figures to power Mansfield to a 91-70 win over Penn State Brandywine in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

Mansfield trailed for the first seven minutes of the game before Jones hit a pair of free throws to tie the game 15-15.

Carter's layup of the midway mark of the first half capped a 9-0 run putting the Mountaineers up 22-15. Mansfield closed out the half with a 38-30 advantage on a Koutofas jumper with three second remaining before intermission.

Mansfield forced 14 turnovers with 10 steals over the first 20 minutes while holding PSU Brandywine to 36% shooting from the floor.

The Mountaineers went on a 6-0 run over the first two minutes of the second half extending their advantage to 44-30. Mansfield took a 20-point lead at 63-43 midway through the second half when Jones picked off an inbound pass, made the layup and was fouled and made the ensuing free throw.

Mansfield was never threatened again, leading by as many as 26 points late in the game.

It marked the first time the Mountaineers had six players in double-figures since beating Alfred State early last season.

Tamanosky scored all 16 of his points in the second half after seeing limited time in the first half because of early fouls. Carter added 15 points while Powell and Gardiner scored 13 points each. Powell also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Jones chipped in with 11 points.

Mansfield connected on 51% from the floor and hit 29-of-35 free throws while forcing 28 turnovers.

Isaiah Lester scored 16 points for PSU Brandywine with Isaiah Wilmore adding 12 points.

The Mountaineers improve to 2-1 on the season and host Seton Hill in a PSAC crossover game this Saturday afternoon on First Citizens Community Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium.
